State Representative Gregg Markkanen continues to promote his bill to help foster care students pursue careers in skilled trades.
Markkanen testified Wednesday before the House Families, Children, and Seniors Committee in support of his plan to expand scholarship opportunities for students who have been in foster care.
Markannen’s plan would add students attending a skilled trades institution to the list of those eligible for the scholarship.
Currently, Michigan students must attend a university, four-year college or a community college at least half the time to be eligible for the Fostering Future Scholarship.
The Fostering Future Scholarship provides eligible foster youth with funds for tuition, fees, room and board, books, and supplies required for enrollment.
House Bill 4406 remains under consideration by the House Families, Children, and Seniors Committee.
