MLB

The Detroit Tigers suffered their second straight shutout loss yesterday, 6-0 to the Minnesota Twins. Detroit batters got just one hit off Minnesota starter Jake Odorizzi, who cruised through seven innings. They added two more in the ninth in a weak rally that quickly fizzled out. Tigers starter Tyson Ross struggled through five innings, giving up all six Twins runs.

The Tigers will play at Minnesota again this afternoon. Spencer Turnbull will start against Michael Pineda. Pregame coverage will begin at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Niko Goodrum left last night’s game after a collision at first base. Goodrum was trying to field a wild throw, and crashed into runner Marwin Gonzalez. Gonzalez also had to leave the contest. Goodrum was diagnosed with a bruised knee, and is considered day-to-day.

Yesterday, the Tigers sent reliever Zach Reininger down to Toledo. They brought up pitcher Nick Ramirez, who was selected in the 2011 draft by the Milwaukee Brewers as a first baseman. When that path didn’t work out, he converted to pitching, and was signed by Detroit after being designated for assignment by Milwaukee during the offseason.

The Milwaukee Brewers won their seventh-straight game yesterday, blanking the Chicago Cubs 7-0. The Crew scored twice in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to put the game away. Gio Conzales earned the win, pitching into the sixth, and giving up just two hits. Ryan Braun homered.

The Brewers play at Chicago again this afternoon. Zach Davies will pitch against Cole Hamels.
