MLB

The Boston Red Sox scored seven runs in the eighth inning, and routed the Detroit Tigers 11-4 last night. The Tigers were already in a hole, after Tyson Ross gave up four runs on seven hits over five innings. The eighth-inning outburst came off José Manuel Fernández, Drew VerHagen and Buck Farmer, and was fueled by a hit batter and five walks. Three Detroit runs in the ninth inning did little to erase the deficit.

The Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Saint Louis Cardinals 5-2 yesterday. Starter Jhoulys Chacín left the game after giving up four runs in the fourth inning. Eric Thames homered for the Crew.

After having been swept by the Cardinals, the Brewers have today off, and will play the Mets in New York tomorrow night. Chase Anderson will pitch against Jacob deGrom.
