Colosseum Makes Hockeyville Final Four – Monday Sports Wrap

The fabled Calumet Colosseum has made the Final Four of the Kraft Hockeyville competition. The winner will receive a $150,000 grant for rink improvements, and will host an NHL pre-season game. Rinks in Eagle River, Wisconsin, Cadillac, Michigan, and Sartell, Minnesota round out the top four. Fan voting to decide the grand prize winner will open at 7:00 Saturday morning, and will end at 11:00 Sunday morning. Visit the Kraft Hockeyville website to learn how you can vote.

GLHL

The Great Lakes Hockey League playoffs will take place this weekend in Mosinee. The Portage Lake Pioneers will open against the Fox Cities Ice Dogs at 9:00 Friday morning Eastern Time, then take on the West Bend Bombers Friday afternoon at 4:15. The Calumet Wolverines will face the Eagle River Falcons Friday night at 9:30, then play the De Pere Deacons Saturday morning at 9:00. The semifinals will be played Saturday afternoon, and the championship match will take place Sunday afternoon. We’ll broadcast all of the Pioneers and Wolverines games on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings will visit the San Jose Sharks tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 10:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons lost to the Golden State Warriors 121-114 last night. Blake Griffin scored 24 points. The Pistons visit the Denver Nuggets tomorrow night. Pregame coverage will begin at 8:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers routed the Toronto Blue Jays 18-6 in their final Grapefruit League game yesterday. Starter Daniel Norris gave up five runs over four innings. Daz Cameron hit a grand slam, and Mikie Mahtook and Miguel Cabrera also homered for Detroit. The Tigers’ veterans will take on the Tigers’ prospects in an exhibition today. Detroit will play an exhibition against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field tomorrow, and then will open their season Thursday afternoon at Toronto. Opening Day coverage Thursday will begin at 3:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers slipped past the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 yesterday to conclude their Cactus League season. The Brewers will face the Blue Jays in Montreal in exhibition games today and tomorrow, before opening the season Thursday at home against the Saint Louis Cardinals.

The Brewers have traded catcher Erik Kratz to the San Francisco Giants. In exchange, they get infielder C.J. Hinojosa, who will likely be assigned to Double-A Biloxi.
