Obituary: Timothy D. Young

Houghton

     Timothy D. Young, 63, a resident of Houghton passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019, from injuries received in a snowmobiling accident.

     He was born on April 28, 1955, in Hancock, son of Sheila Beattie.  Tim was raised in Houghton and was a graduate of the Houghton High School.

     He then worked for Formatic’s in Ripley until they closed.  He then began a career working as a service technician and troubleshooter for Hancock Bottling Company retiring after 30 years.  Tim was a hard worker his whole life usually working two jobs or more at a time such as stringing rackets at the racket ball court and owning and operating Lucas Vending Company. He also was a co-founder and owner of Bleacher’s Sports Bar in Hancock for several years.

     Tim enjoyed all sports his whole life he coached for the Copper Country Junior Hockey Association, Refed High School football and volleyball games for years.

     Mr. Young was a very talented person being able to work on a wide range of projects from vending machines to carpentry projects.  He also enjoyed tinkering and getting a new gadget that he could use to fix a problem.  He loved the outdoors riding his Spider or snowmobile.  He was a member of the Keweenaw ATV Club.

     Preceding him in death were his mother and grandparents.

     Surviving are:

            His wife: Suzy Young of Houghton

            His son Lucas Young

            His brothers: Bob (Susan) Young of Casper, WY

                                    Jim (Lorraine) Young of Houghton

            His sister-in-law: Betsy (George) Hocking of Liminga

            His nephews: David Brotherton,

    Phillip (Corssa) Brotherton of Colorado Springs, CO

     Ray (Elizabeth) Brotherton of Eagan, MN

            His aunt: JoAnn Hauswirth a resident of the Omega House in Houghton.       

            Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

     A prayer service for Tim will be held 11 am Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral home of Hancock with Fr. John Martignon to officiate.

     Friends may call on Monday, March 4, 2019, from 4 to 8 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral home of Hancock and on Tuesday from 10 am until time of services at the funeral home.
