Winter Carnival kicked off this weekend with special events like the broomball and curling tournaments. But the big news came out of the Winter Carnival Queen Coronation on Saturday as Senior Janna Clement was crowned Queen of the carnival. Clement says she is honored to have this distinction. The night had an overwhelming theme of childhood movie characters so in that vein, during the talent portion of the competion, she sang her own version of the song “Under the Sea”, popularized in the movie The Little Mermaid, but rewrote and localized it with the name “Under the Snow”. Clement will now have a few responsibilties including judging the ice sculptures later this week. She also received a $1,000 scholarship from the Michigan Tech Student Foundation.
