The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced it is making $22.1 million available to support the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program in Michigan. The LIHEAP program offers home energy assistance programs for low-income households. Over 600,000 households are served in Michigan by this program. Congressman Dan Benishek says while this won’t completely fix the problem, these added resources should offer some help, especially to the neediest families. He also adds that he has written to President Obama in support of LIHEAP funding each year since coming to Congress.
