As this winter’s coldest stretch of weather so far comes to a close, celebrating the season may be the last thing on people’s minds but the grand finale of Heikinpäivä takes place Friday night.
The Family Fun Day closes out the near month-long festival at the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock from 6:30pm-8:30pm.
Kay Seppala from the Finnish Theme Committee says this event has been a great tradition for many years. “People from age 2 to 92 come out and enjoy a time of just learning some traditional Finnish folk dancing and we’re going to include the hobby horse part of that this year, too, so it’s a great time for families to enjoy,” she said.
The cost is only $5 for the entire family, no matter how many people happen to be in your family. There will be live music, dancing, and refreshments. The event marks the close for the 20th year that Hancock has celebrated Heikinpäivä.
