So far, so good. That was the assessment given yesterday at the Houghton City Council meeting to the city’s preliminary report on the International Property Maintenance Code inspections. City Manager says the code, which was passed last year, was created in response to citizen requests regarding the overall upkeep and conditions of many structures. The numbers showed that more than 1400 properties were inspected and 179 had deficiencies. Those property owners were notified back in May to take care of the issues regarding their properties and Waara says the results show the significant progress that was made.
This fall, more notifications will be sent out…thanking those who took care of repairs and reminding those who haven’t. Another city-wide inspection is schedule for the spring of next year.
