Structure fire leaves lone occupant with severe burns

IRON COUNTY — The Iron County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched, on January 29th, 2019, to a structure fire at 105 Little Deer Rd in Stambaugh Twp .

When fire and law enforcement personnel arrived at the scene the residence was fully engulfed by the fire.

A witness reported that the lone occupant of the residence had been observed exiting the burning residence, but had been seriously burned.

The victim Johathan Zawislak age 39 of Iron River was transported to Iron River Aspirus Hospital by Aspirus Medivac and later transferred to the Duluth Burn Unit for treatment of his injuries.

The West Iron Fire Dept. was assisted by Crystal Falls, Caspian-Gaastra and Long Lake Fire Departments.
Iron Counties Deputies were also assisted by the Iron River Police Dept., and Iron County Central Dispatch. The Michigan State Police Fire Marshal was also contacted for assistance.

The incident and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
