Presentation Looks At Cost Of Flood Prevention

The floods that devastated the Copper Country last summer caused million of dollars worth of damage—but what would it cost to keep an event like that from happening again?

The Carnegie Museum’s Father’s Day Flood series will present Dr. Melanie Kueber Watkins tonight at 7pm.  She will speak on “Being Prepared Has a Cost: Tools to Make Informed Decisions About Stormwater Management.”

Watkins is a Michigan Tech professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and a member of the Portage Township Planning Commission.

She will give an overview of engineering designs for flood risk reduction, briefly review local stormwater management zoning ordinances, and provide a case study example of a flood risk reduction project.
