New Tech Being Used By CCISD Teachers To Record Themselves

The Copper Country Intermediate School District Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 15, 2019

Special Education Director Kristina Penfold gave demonstration for the board on a new piece of technology using an I-Pad and Swivl. As part of the Enhanced Core Reading Instruction (ECRI) Grant through Michigan’s Integrated Behavior and Learning Support Initiative four of our local schools and the ISD have iPads and Swivls. The iPads and Swivls are used by teachers to record themselves teaching. The teacher wears a small lanyard that services both as a microphone so we can hear and as a tracker so that the iPad in the Swivl base can rotate to follow the teacher, keeping him or her on the screen at all times. The movements are smooth and limited to when the teacher moves. They can then safely share the video with the ECRI coaches and get feedback about the lesson.

REMC1 Director Mike Richardson gave the board a tour of the newly renovated office space for the REMC staff. Richardson stated that the remodeling has helped with centralizing more staff, increasing communication and efficiency. The renovation was made possible now that the CCISD has more conference rooms available at the CTE center, allowing REMC to take over space from a current conference room at the main ISD building.

January is School Board recognition month. Superintendent Stockero thanked the Board for their commitment to the education of the students in the Copper Country, noting many on the Board have given of their time for many, many years. Stockero also noted that he was appreciative of the support that the Board has given him during his years as Superintendent, stating that the Board has taught him many things and helped him learn and grow.

In other action, the Board:
 Hired Elizabeth Hirzel as a Part-time/Temporary Instructional Aide.
 Hired Mark Lucier as a REMC1 System Engineer.
 Hired Sierra Bishop as a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Specialist.
 Accepted Resignation of Thomas Griffin, REMC 1 System Engineer.
 Approved final adoption of proposed revised, replaced and rescinded Neola polices.
