In high school boys basketball last night…
– Calumet buried West Iron County 72-48. Matt Ojala had 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists.
– Hancock v Dollar Bay-Tamarack City – no report.
– Jeffers defeated Lake Linden-Hubbell 72-61. Christian Hocking scored 28 for the Jets.
– Chassell cruised past Republic-Michigamme 73-43.
– Ontonagon defeated Wakefield-Marenisco 54-48.
– Ewen-Trout Creek outscored Watersmeet 70-64. Eli Nordine scored 30 points for the Panthers.
In boys action tonight, L’Anse plays at Houghton. That’s a make-up of the game that was snowed out on Monday.
In girls play last evening, L’Anse lost to Gwinn 75-39.

In high school swimming yesterday, the Houghton boys defeated Kingsford 101-60, while the girls lost 97-73. For the girls team, Tessa Meyer won the 100-meter butterfly, Samatha Olson took the 500-meter freestyle, and Mikayla Sague won the 100-meter breaststroke. For the boys, Colton Haataja won both the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle, Cameron Jackson took the 100-meter butterfly, Kevin Beaghan won the 100-meter backstroke, and Davin Evans won the 100-meter breaststroke. The Gremlins compete at the Marquette Splash tomorrow.

– Jeffers faces Rice Lake at the Hayward Invitational in Wisconsin.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University men’s hockey team skates at Lawrence University tonight, and Marian University tomorrow.
The Finlandia women’s hockey team hosts the Sault College Cougars for a pair of exhibition matches, this evening at 7:00, and tomorrow at 2:30.
The Lions women’s basketball team entertains Adrian College tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 at the Paavo Nurmi Center.
The Finlandia women’s soccer team has introduced a new recruit. Natalyeah Hinds is currently a student at Wayne Memorial High School in the Detroit area.
MTU/NMU
Both Michigan Tech basketball teams earned victories over Ferris State University last night. The women routed the Bulldogs 72-37. Cassidy Trotter scored 18 for the Huskies, who held Ferris to just 14 points in the second half. The men held off a late Ferris challenge to secure a 64-61 victory. Dawson Bilski led the Huskies with 18 points.
Both Tech teams will entertain Lake Superior State University tomorrow. The women’s contest starts at 1:00, and the men tip off at 3:00.
The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team overwhelmed Lake Superior State 93-36 last night. The men’s team lost to the Lakers 86-66.
The Michigan Tech hockey team welcomes Bowling Green State University this weekend. Games begin tonight and tomorrow night at 7:07 at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
The Northern Michigan University hockey squad skates at Alaska-Anchorage tonight and tomorrow night.

The Portage Lake Pioneers visit the De Pere Deacons tonight, and the Eagle River Falcons tomorrow night.
The Calumet Wolverines are off this weekend.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons’ slide continued with a 112-102 loss to the Sacramento Kings last night. With Blake Griffin on the bench because of a planned night off, Stanley Johnson led Detroit with 16 points. Detroit has lost nine of its last 11 games. The Pistons’ west coast trip continues against the Los Angeles Clippers tomorrow afternoon.

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Winnipeg Jets tonight. Pregame coverage will start at 7:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The NFL Divisional playoff games will be played this weekend…

Former Detroit Lions coach Rick Forzano has died at the age of 90. Forzano led the team to a 15-17 record over two seasons in the mid-1970s.
