Tech Volleyball Wins – Tuesday Sports Wrap

MTU Volleyball Wins at Urbana
The Michigan Tech volleyball team defeated Urbana 3-0 in a non-conference match last night.

Michigan Tech freshman hockey forward Dylan Steman has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week. Steman had a goal and an assist as the Huskies swept Lake Superior State over the weekend.

The Tech football team has moved up to number-22 in the Division II Coaches’ Poll. The undefeated Huskies had last weekend off, and will play at Northwood on Saturday. Ohio Dominican from the GLIAC is eighth this week in the coaches’ poll, and Ferris State is 13th.

Lions Look for Kicker – Again
The Detroit Lions are again in the market for a new kicker. Alex Henery was released yesterday, a day after missing three field goal attempts. Converting any one of the three would have turned Detroit’s loss to the Bills into a victory. Henery missed four of five attempts in his two games with the Lions. Veterans Matt Prater and Jay Feely are among those who’ve been reported to be working out for the team this week.

The Lions could be without Calvin Johnson Sunday at Minnesota. The star receiver is battling an ankle injury, Running back Joique Bell hopes to return, after missing the loss to Buffalo because of a concussion… BELL. Running back Reggie Bush left the Bills game with an ankle injury. He says he’s feeling better, and is considered day-to-day.

In last night’s NFL game, Seattle defeated Washington 27-17. If you played the Wolf Pro Football Challenge, you must have picked 13 or more games correctly to be eligible to be our weekly winner.

MLB Playoffs
In baseball, former Tiger Doug Fister threw seven shutout innings, as the Nationals beat the Giants 4-1 yesterday. San Francisco leads that National League Divisional Series two games to one. The Cardinals took a two-games-to-one lead in their series by beating the Dodgers 3-1. Game four of each of those series will be played this evening.

Pistons Open Preseason Tonight
Detroit Pistons LogoThe Detroit Pistons will play their first preseason game tonight at home against the Bulls. We will carry select Pistons games again this season in AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
