Program Addresses Juvenile Justice System

Michigan is one of four states selected by the National Governors Association to find ways to improve the juvenile justice system.
The goal is to create better outcomes for youth as well as safer communities.
The Michigan Department of Human Services says that over the next several months, teams from the four states will focus on improving information-sharing across systems that serve youth, limiting involvement of low-risk youths in the juvenile justice system and expanding community based-alternatives to incarceration.
They hope to lower recidivism rates, reduce costs in the system, and improve public safety.
The other states are Arkansas, Indiana and Tennessee.
