The North Woods Conservancy is scheduled to close on a parcel of land Friday if they successfully raise the remaining funds they need.
Closing is set for 1pm on the so-called Missing Linkage but they still needed $18,000 as of Wednesday. The property is 546 acres with 3,100 feet of Lake Superior shoreline and includes over 7,800 feet of the Gratiot River. The river and a county road run through the property…so public access is guaranteed.
It’s called “The Missing Linkage” because when acquired it will connect MNA Black Creek, Gratiot River County Natural Park, KNA Gratiot River North, and KNA Conglomerate Falls into one big Natural Area for wildlife and people, helping to support the quality of life as well as supporting the tourism economy.
A total of $80,000 was needed at the start but a private donor pledged to match donations up to $40,000. The conservancy raised $22,000 in the last four weeks.
If they are able to close, the conservancy will hold a meeting on Saturday, January 5th at 1pm at the Ahmeek Streetcar Station. The purpose of the meeting is to plan their strategy to pay off the principle in the next 2-3 years, and also to answer any questions people may have about the project.
