Huskies Hockey Halted by Huntsville – Saturday Sports Wrap

High School
In high school hockey yesterday…
– Calumet trounced Utica Eisenhower 8-2. Scott Loukus and Brent Loukus each had hat tricks for the Copper Kings. Scott added two assists, and Brent had one. Alex Mattila and Tanner Rowe also scored. Sam Kiiskila got the win in net, as the Kings outshot the Eagles 38-13.
– Jeffers outscored the FNV Griffins 6-3 at the Gaylord DIII Challenge yesterday morning. Matthew Halonen had a goal and two assists for the Jets.

In hockey today…
– Houghton welcomes Utica Eisenhower at 1:00.
– Jeffers faces Grand Rapids Catholic Central at the Gaylord DIII Challenge at 2:00.

In girls basketball last evening…
– Houghton lost at West Iron County 53-40.
– Negaunee shut down Hancock 53-26.
– Chassell stopped Lake Linden-Hubbell 56-25.
– Ontonagon shut down Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 71-25.
– L’Anse defeated Baraga 38-26.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University men’s basketball team played tough through the first half, but eventually lost to Wisconsin-Stout 84-65 last night. The Lions trailed by just one point at halftime, but the Blue Devils outscored them by 18 in the second half. Jaden Janke led Finlandia with 18 points.

The Finlandia women’s basketball team lost 92-37 to Hope College at the Hope College Post-Exam Jam last night. Harlee Froberg scored 15 points. The Lions will face Baldwin-Wallace University in the tournament consolation game this afternoon.

The Lions men’s hockey team outshot Wisconsin-Stout  30-26 last night, but lost the game 4-1. Paul Lochner scored for Finlandia. Marcus Gloss made 22 saves. Those teams will face off again tonight in Eagle River, Wisconsin.

The Finlandia women’s hockey squad lost 3-1 at Concordia-Moorhead last night. Natasha Kern scored the Lions’ only goal. Annah Smiddy made 51 saves to keep the Lions in the game. Those teams play again this afternoon.

MTU/NMU
The Michigan Tech hockey team lost 1-0 to Alabama-Huntsville last night. The Huskies outshot the Chargers 39-17, but couldn’t find the net. Robbie Beydoun took the loss in net. Those teams play again tonight.

The Northern Michigan University hockey team defeated Ferris State University 4-1 last night. Those teams face off again tonight in Marquette.

The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team will host Lewis University this afternoon at 4:00. The Huskies men’s team welcomes Wisconsin-Stout today at 6:00.

Good luck to the Ferris State University football team, which will play Valdosta State for the Division II national title this afternoon. Kickoff is at 4:00 in McKinney, Texas.

GLHL
The Calumet Wolverines dropped a 6-2 decision to the Mosinee Papermakers at Meadowbrook Arena in L’Anse last night. Those teams will play again tonight at 7:30 at the Colosseum.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings fell to the Ottawa Senators 4-2 last night. Luke Glendening and Dylan Larkin scored for the Wings. Jimmy Howard made 28 saves, and took the loss. Detroit visits the New York Islanders tonight. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, pregame coverage will begin at 6:40 on KBear 102.3.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons host the Boston Celtics tonight. Reggie Bullock is expected to be back in the Detroit line-up tonight, after missing two weeks with a sprained ankle.

NFL
We’ll broadcast a special NFL doubleheader tomorrow on 99.3 The Lift. The Houston Texans visit the New York Jets at 4:30, and the Denver Broncos host the Cleveland Browns at 8:20.

Tomorrow, the Green Bay Packers visit the Chicago Bears in a 1:00 game. The Detroit Lions travel to Buffalo to face the Bills in a 1:00 game. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
