Houghton County will be losing over three decades worth of combined leadership experience as 2018 closes out.
Tuesday night was the final Board meeting for commissioners Anton Pintar and Tim Palosaari. Pintar is retiring after serving on the board for 12 years and Palosaari was defeated in the Republican primary by Roy Britz after serving for 8 years.
County Treasurer Kathleen Beattie also announced her retirement after 14 years. Deputy County Treasurer Lisa Mattila was appointed by a special committee to serve the remainder of her term.
The board voted to extend a $1,000 bonus to Beattie in gratitude for her work establishing the Houghton County Land Bank Authority and addressing blighted properties.
In other business, the board approved a $1 million payment toward their Municipal Employees’ Retirement System obligation. They also approved the courthouse union contract and wages and benefits for appointed and elected officials.
