Chelsey LaFernier Memorial Walk

The annual Chelsey LaFernier Memorial Walk to End Domestic Violence will be held in Baraga tomorrow. Chelsey LaFernier was murdered by her abusive partner in 2009. The walk will begin at 1 o’clock at the intersection of McGillan Street and Lyons Avenue, near where she lived. It will end at the Big Bucks Bingo Hall, where Tim Derwin from the Sault Ste. Marie Chippewa Tribe will speak on native tradition and the roles men play in ending domestic violence. Participants may park at the Bingo Hall, where rides will be provided to the starting point. The walk is sponsored by the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Office of Violence Against Women Programs and Services. All participants will receive a free t-shirt.
