Keweenaw Native Joins Pediatric Staff at UP Health System-Bell

ISHPEMING — UP Health System – Bell is pleased to welcome Shannon Scott, DNP, FNP-C, to its pediatric staff. Shannon is currently seeing patients to provide comprehensive pediatric services for children of all ages at Bell Hospital in Ishpeming.
Scott is currently accepting patients for well-child exams, acute complaints, same-day appointments, contraceptive counseling and mood disorder management.

“I love pediatrics and have a soft spot for special needs children and their caregivers as my daughter has a rare genetic disorder,” Shannon said. “My care philosophy is collaborative and I look to work with parents and other disciplines to best manage their medical concerns. I’m flexible and really honor a parent’s intuition.”

Scott is familiar with UPHS after having completed the majority of her clinical hours at UPHS Pediatric Specialists under the direction of Dr. Darr. She earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from Northern Michigan University after earning her LPN Certification at Gogebic Community College. Shannon is also board certified through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

At UPHS this past year, from January to July, she spent time as a Student Nurse Practitioner with the UPHS Pediatric Services, helping in patient assessment and diagnosis in the pediatric population, interdisciplinary collaboration and inpatient rounding. She also worked as a student NP from June to July in the UPHS Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, where she attended births with the NICU team and assisted with invasive procedures.

Recently, Shannon worked as a Registered Nurse contingent at the Superior Walk-In and Family Health after spending time as an RN contingent at the Vielmetti Health Center.

Shannon is a Keweenaw native and enjoys spending her free time with her family and mountain biking. She is also an advocate for rare disease research.
