High School
In high school hockey, Houghton opens its season tonight at Marquette.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s soccer team has added a new recruit. Meaghan Maly is from Ortonville, where she plays for Brandon High School. Her cousin, Matt Williams, will be playing for the Lions men’s soccer team.

NMU
The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team plays at the Hillsdale College Thanksgiving Classic tonight and tomorrow. The Wildcats will open against Ohio Dominican this evening.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons cruised to a 113-102 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers last night. Detroit led by as many as 30 points. Andre Drummond led the team with 23 points and 16 rebounds. Blake Griffin added 21 points. The Pistons visit the Houston Rockets tomorrow night.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings return to action tomorrow, when they host the Boston Bruins. Pregame coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
In last night’s NFL contest, the Los Angeles Rams outscored the Kansas City Chiefs 54-51. The teams combined for 1,001 yards of offense in the highest-scoring Monday night game ever, the third-highest-scoring game in league history, and the first game in which both teams scored more than 50 points. If you played The Wolf Pro Football Challenge, you must have selected at least nine games correctly to qualify to be our weekly winner.

The Detroit Lions didn’t practice yesterday, but, if they had, team officials say neither running back Kerryon Johnson nor wide receiver Marvin Jones would have been able to take part. Both are dealing with knee problems. Johnson left Detroit’s win over Carolina Sunday in the third quarter. He’s been diagnosed with a sprain, and is considered week-to-week.

MLB
The Milwaukee Brewers have filled the two gaps in their coaching staff. Chris Hook will be the new pitching coach. He takes over for Derek Johnson, who took a job with the Cincinnati Reds. Hook had been the Brewers’ minor-league pitching coordinator. Andy Haines is the new hitting coach, replacing Darnell Coles, who moved to the Diamondbacks. He was on the Chicago Cubs’ staff last season.

Turkey Trot
The UP Health System-Portage 5k Turkey Trot will begin Thursday morning at 9:00 at the Hancock hospital campus. This is an untimed, fun family event. Refreshments will be available afterward. There is no charge, but registration is required. For more details, click here. Register online here, or in the hospital lobby before the event begins.

Our high school hockey coverage continues Saturday night, when Calumet hosts Hancock in the deciding game of the Copper Island Classic. The pregame show will start at 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. Our high school basketball coverage will begin November 27th, when the Lake Linden-Hubbell boys play at Hancock.

The next edition of our award-winning KBear 102.3 Deer Hunters Roundup will air tomorrow evening at 7:00. If you have a successful hunt, upload the information and pictures at KBear102.com, and you could win a prize.
