Michigan To Choose Next Governor Tuesday

With the election taking place tomorrow, voters in Michigan will finally choose who will succeed Governor Rick Snyder.

After eight years of Snyder, Attorney General Bill Schuette touts the state’s economic growth as evidence for the need to keep Michigan Republican.  Schuette said, “Remember, eight years ago we had 15 percent unemployment, we lost 500,000 jobs, and people left this state in a mass exodus, and so we’ve rebounded and now the question is do you want to go backward or do you want to go forward?”

But critics of Snyder say an election of Schuette will simply be a third term for a party who has already had enough time in the Governor’s mansion.  Schuette disagrees, saying he will govern his way.  “I’ll take anybody on and I’ll fight for everybody and that record of independent accomplishment separates me from anybody else and I have the most experience to lead this state than anybody. Between Gretchen Whitmer and Bill Schuette, I have more experience than anybody to get the job done on the first very day,” Schuette said.

Former state legislator Gretchen Whitmer sees this as an opportunity to right the ship after years of failed polices.  “We deserve better. I look at the Michigan my daughters are growing up in and I want them to be proud Michiganders like I am but we got a long ways to go to ensure that we’re leading this nation again instead of lagging it,” said Whitmer.

Whitmer says her plans go beyond just fixing the roads, she also wants the state to take a strong stance on protecting our natural resources.  She said, “The state government has got to exercise real oversight when we are talking about stewardship of our natural resources. People move to the UP for a lot of great reasons, but one of the most prominent is because look at this beautiful land and the water, the opportunity to enjoy the environment that is like nowhere else in the world.”

Recent polls have shown the gap closing between the two candidates with Whitmer hanging on to the lead for Democrats.
