Lakes, Kings Win Volleyball Districts – Friday Sports Wrap

High School
In the district finals of the high school volleyball tournament last night…
– Division Four District 98, Lake Linden-Hubbell swept L’Anse 3-0 (26-24, 27-25, 25-21) to win the district title. The Lakes move on to the regional semifinals Tuesday at 7:30 at Westwood. They will face the winner of tomorrow’s match between Munising and Rapid River.
– Division Four District 97, Wakefield-Marenisco eliminated Ewen-Trout Creek 3-0.
– Division Three District 65, Calumet won the title with a 3-1 (25-13, 25-14, 21-25, 25-12) victory over Norway. The Copper Kings advance to the regional semifinal Tuesday at Marquette against Manistique.
– Division Two District 33, Houghton faces Kingsford for the district title tonight at 6:00 at Kingsford.

The Calumet Copper Kings will face Traverse City St. Francis tomorrow at 1:00 in the Division Six district football final. The game will be played at Thirlby Field in Traverse City. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:35 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University soccer teams will host the American Collegiate Athletic Association playoffs this weekend…
– In the women’s semifinals, Finlandia will face Thomas More tomorrow at 10:00, and SUNY Delhi will play Alfred State at 1:00.
– In the men’s semifinals, Finlandia will take on Thomas More tomorrow at 4:00, and SUNY Delhi will play Pine Manor at 7:00.
The finals will be played on Sunday. We’ll broadcast all of the Lions’ games on 99.3 the Lift and TheLift.com.

The Finlandia volleyball team will compete at the ACAA tournament at SUNY-Delhi this weekend. The Lions will face Alfred State in the semifinals tomorrow.

The Finlandia women’s hockey team hosts Trine University this weekend. Faceoffs are at 7:30 tonight and 4:15 tomorrow at the Houghton County Arena. Hear tonight’s game on 99.3 The Lift and TheLift.com.

The Lions men’s hockey team skates at the Milwaukee School of Engineering tonight, and at Concordia-Wisconsin tomorrow.

The Finlandia football team plays at Albion College tomorrow.

The Lions women’s basketball plays an exhibition at Northern Michigan University tomorrow.

MTU
The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team upended Division One Eastern Michigan University 66-61 last night in an exhibition match. Cassidy Trotter led the Huskies with 20 points. Abbie Botz had seven rebounds.

The Tech men’s team dropped a 94-74 exhibition loss to Division One Wisconsin-Green Bay last night. Dawson Bilski led MTU with 20 points. Bryan Heath and Jake Witt each added a dozen. Witt led the squad with eight rebounds.

The Tech volleyball team wraps up its regular season with games at Ferris State tonight, and Northwood tomorrow.

The MTU football team is off this weekend.

The Huskies hockey team skates at Alabama-Huntsville tonight and tomorrow night.

Three MTU soccer players have earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason season honors. Forward Grace Shaw and defender Rachel Wall were named 2nd Team All-GLIAC. Goalie Amanda Young was an Honorable Mention.

NMU
The Northern Michigan University football team plays at Wayne State tomorrow afternoon.

The Wildcats hockey team visits Bowling Green tonight and tomorrow night.

GLHL
The Portage Lake Pioneers will open their season in Marquette against the Mutineers tomorrow night at 7:00.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons will visit the Philadelphia 76ers tomorrow afternoon.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings won their third straight game last night, edging the New Jersey Devils 4-3. Justin Abdelkader broke a 2-2 tie midway through the third period. Trevor Daley’s goal in the final minute proved to be the game winner, as the Devils pulled their goalie and got one back with four seconds remaining. Martin Frk and Michael Rasmussen also scored for Detroit. The Wings host the Edmonton Oilers tomorrow. Pregame coverage will start at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the San Francisco 49ers shut down the Oakland Raiders 34-3.

The Detroit Lions visit the Minnesota Vikings for a 1:00 game Sunday. The Green Bay Packers visit the New England Patriots in the Sunday night contest. Hear both games on 99.3 The Lift.
