Obituary: Jane Julia Pelto

Jane Julia Pelto, 74, a resident of Mohawk, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, with George Newman to officiate.

Visitation will be from 12:00 (Noon) until 1:00 PM Saturday.

Jane Julia Pelto, 74, a resident of Mohawk, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.
She was born on August 23, 1944 in Mason, Michigan to Nestor and Lillian (Wilmers) Ruona.
She attended Dollar Bay schools.
Jane worked for Keweenaw County for 28 years as the Equalization Director, Zoning administrator, Taxation Director, and the 911operator.
She loved spending time at the family camp in Jacobsville. She also enjoyed spending time in the nature of the Keweenaw. Often times you could find her walking, gardening, and berry picking. She also loved doing crossword puzzles and reading.
She was known for her quick wit and her kind and compassionate spirit. Jane was considered the backbone of her family and made sure that everyone was taken care of.
Her pride and joy were her grandkids, especially her great granddaughter, Sophia.
In 1961, she was united in marriage to William Pelto.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Nestor and Lillian Ruona, 2 daughters, Lisa and Lori Anne, 1 son, William J. Pelto Jr., 1 grandchild, Nichole Alicia Kinnunen , her brother, Raymond Ruona, and 2 sisters, Beatrice Hyrkas, and Joyce Nordstrom.
She is survived by:
Her husband: William Pelto of Mohawk
Her grandson: Brandon Pelto of Calumet
Her granddaughter: Ashley Kinnunen of Hancock
Her great granddaughter: Sophia Nichole
Brothers: Edwin (Anita) Ruona of Calumet
Wilmer (Lucy) Ruona of Colorado Springs, Colorado
Sister: Laila (Paul) Knutti of Kenosha, WI
And numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 12:00 at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, with George Newman to officiate.
Burial will take place at the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.
