Robert J. “Bob” Teddy, age 65, of L’Anse, MI passed away Monday, September 24, 2018 at UP Health System, Marquette, MI. He was born in Detroit, MI on August 13, 1953 the son of the late Fred and Josephine (Zapolnik) Teddy. The family moved to L’Anse and Bob graduated from L’Anse High School in 1971. Following high school graduation he attended Mesabi Jr. College for 2 years. Bob married the former Kathryn “Kathy” Ranta at United Lutheran Church, L’Anse, MI on October 7, 1978. He was L’Anse Village Chief of Police in the 1980’s, then was hired as a deputy for the Sheriff’s Department and was elected as Sheriff in 1988. Bob retired in 2015. He was a member of United Lutheran Church, L’Anse, Michigan Sheriff Association, the Masons and had been a member of the L’Anse Fire Department for 20 years. He helped organize the Senior Citizens Triad, the DARE program and was instrumental in the building of the Baraga County Jail. He loved spoiling his grandchildren and enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, going to camp, running his dog, 4-wheeling, cross country skiing and scuba diving. In the late 1970’s Bob and others located the anchors near the L’Anse Waterfront Park.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Kathy of L’Anse, son Joseph Teddy of Stevens Point, WI, daughter Bobbi (Jason) Edwards of Dorr, MI grandchildren Peyton, Landon and Sawyer, brothers Roger (Mary) Teddy of Suamico, WI and Fred (Joan) Teddy of L’Anse, mother-in-law Ruth Ranta of L’Anse, sister-in-law Joanne Mitchell of Baraga and brother-in-law Robert Ranta of L’Anse and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his beloved dog Hunter. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his dogs Bailey, Freddy and Legin.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse, MI from 11 am until 1 p.m. A Mason service will be conducted at 1 pm followed by a L’Anse Fire Department service. The memorial funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm with Pastor John Ansell officiating. Immediately following the memorial funeral service, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral chapel.
Interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
