Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s soccer team defeated Wisconsin-Superior 2-1 yesterday afternoon. Kirsten L’Esperance scored both of the Lions’ goals. Haley Makela got the win in net. It’s the first time the Lions have ever defeated the Yellowjackets. It’s also the fifth win of the season – a new Finlandia women’s soccer record.

MTU
The MTU soccer team fell to Northwood University 2-1 yesterday. Grace Shaw scored the Huskies’ only goal.

MLB
The Detroit Tigers fell to the Kansas City Royals 3-2 in their final home game of the season yesterday. Daniel Norris turned in a good start, giving up a run over five innings. Drew VerHagen took the loss. The Tigers’ runs scored on sacrifice flies by Nicholas Castellanos and Victor Reyes.

The Tigers have today off, and begin a series at Minnesota tomorrow night. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers outslugged the Pittsburgh Pirates 13-6 yesterday. Christian Yelich, Travis Shaw and Mike Moustakas hit home runs. The Crew also scored five runs in the sixth thanks to Pittsburgh pitcher Michael Feliz. Feliz entered the game with the bases loaded. He walked in two runs, then uncorked a wild pitch that bounced off the catcher all the way to the first base dugout, and allowed three runs to score.

Yelich left the game in the seventh inning after he was hit on the elbow by a pitch. He’s considered day-to-day.

The Cubs and Cardinals both won, so the Brewers still trail Chicago by two-and-a-half games in the National League Central Division, and lead Saint Louis by two games in the race for the top wild card playoff berth. The Brewers begin a critical series at Saint Louis tonight.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings remained unbeaten in the preseason with a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins yesterday. Michael Rasmussen, Andreas Athanasiou and Trevor Daley scored for Detroit. Harri Säteri made 29 saves. The Wings will play their next exhibition game tomorrow night in Chicago. Listen for regular-season Red Wings games on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
The Green Bay Packers gave up four touchdowns in the first half, and lost to Washington 31-17 yesterday. Adrian Peterson rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns for Washington. Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers passed for 265 yards and two touchdowns.

The Detroit Lions stunned the New England Patriots 26-10 last night. Kerryon Johnson rushed for 101 yards – the first Lion to hit triple digits in five years. Matthew Stafford threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns. Nine different players caught passes. The Detroit defense held Pats’ quarterback Tom Brady to just 133 yards passing.

Tonight, the Pittsburgh Steelers visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

Our high school football coverage will continue with two games on Friday. Calumet will try to clinch a playoff berth at Iron Mountain on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. Hancock plays at Westwood on 99.3 The Lift and TheLift.com.
