On October 10, Feeding America West Michigan,in partnership with Finlandia University, will provide a food distribution to people in need at Baraga Area High School. The distribution will take place at 4:30 p.m.
The Mobile Pantry will contain a variety of foods, including fresh produce. This food distribution is to support our neighbors that struggle to provide food for their families. Those coming to receive food will not need to provide proof of income, but will be required to provide basic contact information and affirm that they are in need of food. They are encouraged to bring their own boxes and carts.
Food insecurity affects one in eight people in West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. In 2016, Feeding America West Michigan delivered 1,554 Mobile Pantries to communities throughout West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. These distributions provided 10.8 million pounds of food, the equivalent of nearly 9 million meals.
Volunteers are needed for the event. If you’re able to volunteer, please contact Finlandia University Campus Pastor Soren Schmidt at (906) 487-7239 or soren.schmidt@finlandia.edu.
