High School
In high school cross country today, local teams run at the Calumet Invitational at the Swedetown Trails.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s soccer team routed Alverno College 6-0 yesterday. Kirsten L’Esperance  and Erika Lambert each scored twice. The Lions improve to 4-1, and have already set or tied team records for the most goals, assists, wins and shutouts in a season.

MTU
The MTU soccer team blanked Purdue Northwest 3-0 yesterday. Grace Shaw, Tate Robison and Brooke Schauer scored for the Huskies.

MLB
Jim Adduci homered and drove in four runs, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Cleveland Indians 6-4 yesterday. Mikie Mahtook also homered for Detroit. Francisco Liriano gave up three runs over seven innings against a Cleveland team which rested most of its regulars after clinching the American League Central Division title on Saturday.

The Tigers host the Minnesota Twins tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will start against Gabriel Moya. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers’ late comeback fell short in a 3-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday. After collecting just three hits over the first eight innings, and spotting the Pirates a 3-0 lead, Jesús Aguilar and Domingo Santana hit back to back homers in the bottom of the ninth. Jhoulys Chacín gave up two runs over five innings, and took the loss.

The Cubs also lost, so the Brewers still trail Chicago by two-and-a-half games in the National League Central Division. They open a home set against the Cincinnati Reds tonight. Wade Miley will pitch against Anthony DeSclafani.

NFL
The Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings played to a 29-29 tie yesterday. More than half of the points scored came in the fourth quarter, with Kirk Cousins connecting on his fourth touchdown pass of the game in the final minute to force overtime. Mason Crosby missed a 52-yard field goal that would have won the game as the clock expired in regulation. The Vikings attempted two field goals in the extra period, but misfired on both. Aaron Rodgers completed 30 of 42 passes for 281 yards and one touchdown.

The Detroit Lions scored two touchdowns in the final nine minutes, but fell to the San Francisco 49ers 30-27 yesterday. Matthew Stafford passed for 347 yards and three touchdowns, but Detroit’s running attack was again held to less than 100 yards. All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay left the game with a concussion.

The Chicago Bears host the Seattle Seahawks tonight.

Our high school football coverage continues Friday, when Hancock plays at Munising. The pregame show will begin at 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
