High School
In high school football last night…
– Houghton scored two late touchdowns, and edged Lake Linden-Hubbell 26-22. It’s the first win of the season for the Gremlins.
– All the scoring came in the first half, as Hancock lost to Gwinn 22-21. The Bulldogs fall to 2-2.
– Calumet remained unbeaten with an easy 43-6 victory over West Iron County. Brent Loukus threw two touchdown passes to Matt Ojala, and ran for another. Travis Ojala ran for two scores.
– L’Anse downed Munising 20-6. Reese Waara threw two touchdown passes, as the Purple Hornet improved to 3-1.
– Ontonagon was shut out 58-0 by North Central.
In high school volleyball today…
– Houghton travels to the Pulaski Invitational.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell and L’Anse play at the Forest Park Invitational.
Finlandia
The Finlandia University men’s soccer team will host Lawrence University this morning at 11:00 at McAfee Field.
The Finlandia women’s soccer team will play at Lakeland University today, and visit Alverno College tomorrow.
The Lions volleyball team is in Galesburg, Illinois, for the Marissa Strong Invitational. Yesterday, they lost to Monmouth University 3-0 (15-25, 15-25, 19-25), then came back to take a 3-2 (25-19, 9-25, 25-21, 11-25, 15-13) victory over Knox College. In the opening match, Kaisa Holmstrom had eight kills, and Jessie Diaz had 12 digs. In the nightcap, Holmstrom had 17 kills, and Diaz set a new school single-game record with 37 digs. The Lions face Wheaton College and Anderson University today.
The Finlandia football team plays at Eureka College in Illinois this afternoon.
MTU
Grace Shaw’s goal in the 66th minute lifted the Michigan Tech soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Wisconsin-Parkside yesterday afternoon. The Huskies will play at Purdue Northwest tomorrow.
The MTU volleyball squad cruised to a 3-0 win (25-9, 25-17, 25-10) over Northwood University last night. Olivia Ghormley scored 18 kills, and Anna Joynas had 12 digs. The Huskies host Ferris State University this afternoon at 4:00.
The Tech football team welcomes Davenport University this afternoon at 1:00.
NMU
The Northern Michigan University football team will host Grand Valley State University this afternoon.
MLB
The Detroit Tigers scored the winning run on a strikeout, then held off the Cleveland Indians 5-4 last night. Leading 4-2 in the eighth inning, Dawel Lugo struck out swinging. Cleveland catcher Yan Gomes dropped the ball, and had to throw Lugo out at first. As he did, JaCoby Jones raced in from third base. Cleveland scored twice against Shane Greene in the ninth, but Greene was able to close out the game.
The Tigers play in Cleveland again today. Michael Fulmer will start against Mike Clevinger. Pregame coverage will begin at 2:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Milwaukee Brewers got past the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-4 last evening. Christian Yelich, Travis Shaw and Mike Moustakas homered. Orlando Arcia drove in two runs with a bunt double that he pushed down the first base line past a drawn-in infield.
The Brewers remain a game-and-a-half behind the Cubs in the National League Central Division. They’ll host the Pirates again tonight. Zach Davies will pitch against Ivan Nova.
NFL
The Green Bay Packers visit the Minnesota Vikings for a 1:00 game tomorrow. There’s still no word as to whether quarterback Aaron Rodgers will be able to play. The Detroit Lions play at San Francisco in a 4:05 game tomorrow. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

Calumet Hockey Association registration will take place today from 10:00 am until noon. Please register your player through USA hockey first and bring the bar code with you to registration. Sign up with USA hockey here.
The Finlandia University men’s ice hockey team will conduct a free skills clinic for boys and girls today at the Houghton County Arena. Bring your own equipment, and be ready to start at 11:00.
