Beginning on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 6 pm until 8 pm a workshop series, called Guiding Good Choices, will be offered in Calumet at the CLK Schools Commons.
This five-week program is being offered by Dial Help and the Houghton & Keweenaw Counties Communities that Care coalition to provide anyone parenting or raising middle school aged children (grades 4-8) with information on how to strengthen family bonds and reduce the risk that their children will use drugs and engage in other problem behaviors.
Guiding Good Choices is a highly interactive program. In a lively open atmosphere, parents and caregivers will learn specific strategies to help children avoid drug use and other adolescent problem behaviors as they develop into healthy adults.
Participants will learn to set clear family guidelines, as well as learn and practice skills to strengthen family bonds, help their children develop healthy behaviors, and increase children’s involvement in the family.
Research has shown that when children are bonded to their families, school, and non-drugusing peers, they are less likely to get involved in drug use or engage in other problem behaviors. Guiding Good Choices has been shown to be effective in strengthening parent/caregiver-child bonds and preventing teenagers from starting to use alcohol or other drugs.
Door prizes and other support have been graciously provided by Portage Fitness Center, Pat’s Foods, Quincy’s Restaurant, Aspirus Fitness Center, and others.
Space is limited! There is no cost to attend this program, but registration is required. To register please call Kevin Weir at (906) 482-9077.
