HOUGHTON, MI, Wednesday, August 22, 2017– The Rozsa Center and Parade of Nations present Olé!, the headline act for Michigan Tech’s 2018 Parade of Nations celebration, on Saturday, September 15, at 7:30 PM. Olé! is a spectacular international comedy and music presentation featuring the exhilarating rhythms of flamenco, salsa, swing, blues, jazz, combined with hilarious slapstick comedy, full of surreal invention and fun! Paul Morocco, Guillermo de Endaya and Marcial Heredia perform together in a zany, unpredictable and spectacular show.
ABOUT THE PERFROMERS
Paul Morocco, the original creator of Olé!, is the mad Cassablancan himself! Paul grew up in Virginia, his mother, a native Moroccan, his father Cajun, from New Orleans. He attended Old Dominion University where he studied languages and Interdisciplinary studies. While a student, he learned to juggle and play guitar, he won several competitions at the IJA, International Jugglers’ Association. He performed throughout the USA and then travelled to Europe as a street performer for several years where he learned his craft of how to interact with a changing and unpredictable international audience. Born in Bilbao, Spain, Guillermo de Endaya started playing guitar at the age of 14. Later on he studied Arts at the Universityf the Basque Country obtaining a degree with honors in audiovisual arts. Contemporarily, he studied music (singing and clarinet) at the Conservatory in Leioa (near Bilbao), becoming the drummer of the Big Band Bilbao for over three years. He led several bands as a singer, guitarist and composer performing in clubs and festivals in the Basque Country. Marcial Heredia was born in 1970 in Hannover, Germany to a family of musicians and flamenco artists. He started his musical training at the age of five, taking lessons from his grandfather and his uncle in a traditional flamenco environment. At twenty one he went to London where he had his very first contact with different musical styles such as funk, blues and jazz, and started experimenting and fusing these with his own flamenco style. He worked with several flamenco groups in clubs around London and did some duo performances with Antonio Forcione. He collaborated in various recordings of artists and producers such as Chonchi Heredia, José el Francés, Maná, and Richard Davies (producer of Queen). He joined “Olé!” In 1997 being part of it until 2006 before re-joining in 2010.
Tickets to Olé! are on sale now, $15 for adults, $5 for children and no charge for students who have paid the Experience Tech fee. Please note the Rozsa Box Office is only open two hours before performances.
