Obituary: Ellen Louise Hocking

Hancock: Ellen Louise Hocking, RN, 82, of Hancock, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at the Woodland Haven Unit of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.

She was born in Calumet on August 25, 1936, a daughter of the late Edward and Edna (Hoog) Beiswanger. She was a 1953 graduate of Dollar Bay High School, later graduating in 1956 from St. Joseph School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Ellen was employed for 41 years at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility from 1956 until her retirement in 1998.

She was married to Gerald Hocking on October 20, 1956 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Dollar Bay.

Ellen was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock. Her family was important to her, especially her grandchildren. She liked knitting, sewing, crocheting, family genealogy, and loved the Green Bay Packers. She also enjoyed spending time with her family at their cottage in Twin Lakes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and on January 9, 2014 by her husband, Jerry.

She is survived by her four children: Patricia (James) Laux of Alston, Robert (Jane) Hocking of Marshfield, WI, Geraldine Hocking of Hancock, and Michael Hocking of Hancock Canal; 6 grandchildren: Justin, Patrick, Michael, Eric, Daniel, and Megan; a sister, Kay Latvala of Dollar Bay; 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the Church of the Resurrection with Reverend Father William Ssozi to officiate. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. before the mass.
