Changing Lanes–Center Lane Now For Left Turn Only At Calumet Intersection

Motorists in Calumet Township need to be aware of a slight change at the area’s busiest intersection.

Crews have been installing new traffic lights at the intersection of US-41/Calumet Avenue and 6th Street Extension/Lake Linden Avenue.

US-41 has also been repaved north of the Swedetown curve.

One change that may have gone unnoticed is that the center lanes of that intersection are now all left-turn only lanes.

The right lanes are for going straight and turning right.

The Michigan Department of Transportation said the previous configuration was not typical of how intersections are generally set up.

Previously, the center lane on 6th Street was used for either turning left or going straight and the right lane was for turning right only.
