McBroom Continuing Campaign Despite Brother’s Death

A family tragedy isn’t keeping one former Upper Peninsula lawmaker from pursuing office.

Vulcan, MI native Ed McBroom served as State Representative in the 108th District for six years and is currently running for State Senate in the 38th District.

McBroom announced Wednesday that he will continue his campaign despite the death of his brother, Carl, in an automobile accident on July 7th.

McBroom is seeking to follow current State Senator Tom Casperson, who is term-limited.

Casperson has endorsed McBroom and also issued a statement Wednesday calling McBroom’s decision to continue a difficult one but the right one for his family and the people of the Upper Peninsula.

McBroom faces fellow Republican Mike Carey in the primary on August 7th.  110th District State Representative Scott Dianda is the lone Democrat on the ballot.
