The Tampa Bay Rays scored five runs in the third inning, and held on to defeat the Detroit Tigers 5-2 last evening. All five runs came off Matthew Boyd, who regrouped and completed six innings. The Tigers got only two hits through the first eight innings, but rallied for a couple of runs in the ninth.
The Tigers wrap up that series at Tampa Bay this afternoon. Jordan Zimmermann will pitch against Hunter Wood. Pregame coverage will begin at 11:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit shortstop José Iglesias left last night’s game in the ninth inning when he was hit on the hand by a pitch. He suffered a bruise, but is not expected to miss more than a game or two.
The Milwaukee Brewers built an early lead, and cruised past the Miami Marlins 8-4 last evening. The Crew took control with a four-run second frame. Jhoulys Chacín pitched into the sixth, gave up all four Miami runs, and got the win. Prospect Corbin Burnes pitched a perfect eighth and ninth in his major league debut, and earned his first save.
The Brewers conclude that set at Miami tonight. Freddy Peralta will start against Dan Straily.

– At the Bone Yard in Lake Linden, Auto Pro Glass and Tire meets Loading Zone II/Calumet Golf Club 5:45, and then plays Mattila Rock & Dock at 7:15.

– REL-Mohawk Technologies defeated Superior National Bank-Stanton 8-4. The loss snapped Stanton’s seven-game winning streak.
– Wolverine-Orbit blanked Dean Kangas-State Farm 3-0.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons have signed free agent rookie guard Keenan Evans to a two-way contract. Evans played for Texas Tech in college. He finished second in scoring in the Big 12 last season, despite playing part of the campaign with a broken toe.
NFL
There’ll be a new voice on Detroit Lions radio broadcasts this season. Veteran color man Jim Brandstatter will be replaced by former Detroit player Lomas Brown. Brandstatter had co-anchored Lions broadcasts for 31 years. The decision was made by Lions flagship station WJR.
