The Detroit Tigers snapped their 11-game losing streak in powerful fashion yesterday, with a 9-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Nicholas Castellanos’ grand slam in the fifth inning was the big blow. JaCoby Jones also homered. Jordan Zimmermann allowed a run in the first inning, then pitched shutout ball through the seventh to earn the win.
The Tigers wrap up that series at Toronto this afternoon. Mike Fiers will pitch against Ryan Borucki. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Tigers outfielder Leonys Martín suffered a hamstring injury while running out a bunt during the game. He’ll be placed on the disabled list.
The Milwaukee Brewers managed just four hits in a rain-soaked 8-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds yesterday. Freddy Peralta got off to a rough start, allowing three runs before recording an out. He regrouped, but both starters left the game after a 54-minute rain delay in the top of the sixth inning. When the contest resumed, the Reds teed off on reliever Aaron Wilkerson, who gave up five runs in the bottom of the sixth, including a grand slam.

Wilkerson was brought up from Colorado Springs before the game. Struggling shortstop Orlando Arcia was sent down.
