Area musicians are contributing to the local flood relief effort with a benefit concert.
An evening of bluegrass is on the agenda for Thursday at the Chassell Pavilion where three UP bluegrass bands will be pickin’ for people of the Portage.
“Thursday, we’re holding the Still Strong benefit concert. We have three bluegrass bands coming in. We have Chasin’ Steel, Keweenaw Bluegrass, and The Paul Family bluegrass band,” said Chelsea Goodreau of the Portage Health Foundation.
The event is called Still Strong and was collaborated rather quickly after a band member reached out and asked what he could do to help.
Goodreau said, “We were approached by the (Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce), who was approached by Jesse from the Paul Family band and they said ‘let’s do a concert’. Within 24 hours, we threw this together and it was actually pretty remarkable.”
The three hour show begins at 7:00 pm on the waterfront and is family friendly, with all ages welcome.
“Participants are able to just show up for free. Come in and enjoy the music. We do have a suggested donation of $20. It’s not required, so we’re not expecting people to donate but it’s an effort that we are using to raise more funds,’ said Goodreau.
Food and concessions remain uncertain at this time but patrons are welcome to bring their own coolers and lawn chairs are also encouraged.
Goodreau said, “All of the proceeds that are raised at this event will come to the Portage Health Foundation Flood Relief Fund.”
