MLB
The Detroit Tigers’ losing streak reached seven games last night, as they fell 9-7 to the Oakland Athletics. The game started well – Detroit scored four runs in the first inning, added two more in the third on an RBI triple by Dixon Machado, and tacked on an additional run in the fourth. Starter Blaine Hardy threw three shutout innings, but a two-out error by first baseman John Hicks led to three Oakland runs in the fourth. A pair of homers in the fifth drove Hardy from the game – he was charged with six runs. Oakland tied it with a run off Louis Coleman in the seventh, and won it when they scored twice off Shane Greene in the top of the ninth.
The Tigers entertain the Athletics again this evening. Mike Fiers will pitch against Chris Bassitt. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-1 last night. Freddy Peralta struck out 10 and gave up just one hit over seven innings. Christian Yelich, Jesús Aguilar and Ryan Braun homered.
That quick interleague series wraps up this afternoon. Brent Suter will start against Danny Duffy.
Milwaukee center fielder Lorenzo Cain has been placed on the disabled list with a groin strain. Keon Broxton has been called up from Colorado Springs to fill in.
