Congressman Jack Bergman returned to Houghton and Gogebic Counties this week, six days after his initial trip to assess the storm damage in both Houghton and Menominee Counties.
On Monday, June 18, Rep. Bergman traveled to the Houghton area to assess the storm damage, speak with emergency officials and receive an update regarding the recovery.
He returned to Houghton on Sunday, June 24, to meet with constituents and see the progress of the recovery process firsthand. Rep. Bergman met with residents in Ripley, an area that received extensive storm damage.
He stated, “While the recovery effort has been impressive, there’s so much work ahead for the residents in these affected areas. For next steps, FEMA will arrive this week to begin their Preliminary Damage Assessment. There are no words to describe the hard work that Yooper volunteers, neighbors, and local officials have done to help these communities get back on their feet.”
After meeting with constituents in Houghton, Rep. Bergman additionally went to Gogebic County to view their damage. Governor Rick Snyder added Gogebic County to the Emergency Declaration on June 21, 2018.
