MLB
The Detroit Tigers struck out 16 times, as they lost to the Cleveland Indians 4-1 yesterday. Francisco Liriano gave up three runs in the first inning, in his first start after nearly a month on the disabled list. He settled down, and completed four innings. Cleveland’s final run came when Justin Wilson served up a solo homer in the fifth. Detroit’s only score came in the second, when JaCoby Jones raced home from third base on a wild pitch.

The Tigers have lost four straight, and wrap up that series at Cleveland this afternoon. Matthew Boyd will start against Adam Plutko.  Pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Saint Louis Cardinals 3-2 yesterday. Yadier Molina hit two home runs, and drove in all three Cards’ runs. Chase Anderson went five innings, and gave up one of those homers. The second, a two-run blast, came off Jeremy Jeffress in the sixth. He took the loss.

The Brewers entertain the Cardinals again this afternoon. Jhoulys Chacín will start against Luke Weaver.

Before yesterday’s game, the Brewers optioned struggling outfielder Domingo Santana to Colorado Springs, and brought up infielder Brad Miller.

NHL
The NHL Draft wrapped up yesterday. The Detroit Red Wings had two of the first five picks in Round Two, which they used on Swedish right winger Jonatan Berggren (33rd overall), and defenseman Jared McIsaac (36th 0verall). In the third round, they added more defense. They selected West Bloomfield native Alec Regula, who played for Cranbrook Kingswood before moving to junior hockey, and Seth Barton, who is committed to the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. See all the picks, and sort by team, here.
