Habitat For Humanity Celebrates Mortgage Burning

Hancock, MI – Copper Country Habitat for Humanity affiliate is delighted to celebrate the completion of a mortgage for one of the area’s Habitat homeowners and to acknowledge all the people involved in creating the possibility of home ownership so many years ago. Habitat for Humanity board members, supporters, and volunteers will gather with the Habitat homeowner and her family in a burning of the mortgage observance on Thursday, June 28 at 5:30 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock.

Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all. Through the work of Habitat, thousands of low-income families have found new hope in the form of affordable housing. Churches, community groups and others have joined together to successfully tackle a significant social problem―decent housing for all. Today, Habitat has helped build or repair more than 600,000 houses and served more than 3 million people around the world. Copper Country Habitat for Humanity is one of 84 Habitat affiliates nationwide. The goal of all affiliates is not simply to build homes, but to be a companion with the homeowner until the day of completion of a mortgage that culminates with a celebration of the possibility of home ownership through the work of Habitat for Humanity.
