MLB
The Detroit Tigers fell behind early, and lost 9-5 to the Cincinnati Reds last night. Matthew Boyd struggled through four innings, giving up five runs, and taking the loss. All five Detroit runs came in the ninth inning, after the game was out of reach.
The Tigers wrap up that quick interleague series at Cincinnati this afternoon. Michael Fulmer will pitch against Tyler Mahle. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:10 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit pitcher Drew VerHagen was hit in the face by a thrown ball while covering first base last night. He suffered a broken nose, and is expected to be placed on the disabled list today.
Freddy Peralta tossed six shutout innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers edged the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 last night. Peralta gave up just two hits, and struck out seven. Jesús Aguilar homered.
The Brewers conclude that series at Pittsburgh tonight. Brent Suter will start against Chad Kuhl.
To make room for Peralta on the roster, the Brewers designated reliever Boone Logan for assignment. Logan signed a 2.5-million dollar free agent contract at the start of the season, but has been hindered by injuries. The club now has seven days to trade him. If they can’t, they could assign him to Triple-A Colorado Springs – an assignment which Logan could decline, and become a free agent.
