MLB
The Detroit Tigers rallied for four runs in the eighth inning, and defeated the Minnesota Twins 5-2 last night. Detroit’s only run through the first seven frames came on a Niko Goodrum homer in the second. The eighth-inning surge was small-ball – RBI singles by Grayson Greiner, Victor Reyes and Leonys Martin. Detroit starter Matthew Boyd gave up two runs in a long first inning, then hung in through the fifth. Buck Farmer, Drew VerHagen, Joe Jiménez and Shane Greene combined to allow just one hit over the final four innings.

The Tigers conclude that series against the Twins this afternoon. Michael Fulmer will pitch against Lance Lynn. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit slugger Miguel Cabrera will undergo surgery to repair the torn biceps tendon in his left arm today. He will miss the rest of this season, but should be ready for spring training next year.

The Milwaukee Brewers edged the Chicago Cubs 1-0 yesterday afternoon. Jhoulys Chacín allowed four hits over six innings. Jeremy Jeffress, Josh Hader and Cory Knebel completed the shutout – the second straight by Milwaukee over Chicago. The only run of the game came on a Lorenzo Cain home run.

The Brewers have today off, and begin a home set against the Philadelphia Phillies tomorrow night. Brent Suter will start against Jake Arrieta.
