Road Funding Talks Continue in Lansing

State lawmakers are back in Lansing and they continue to talk about road funding, but any vote to raise new revenue for the roads is on hold. Before the summer recess the House passed a $450 million road package but that went nowhere in the Senate and now despite talks over the summer Senate GOP leader Randy Richardville is announcing a vote on new revenue for the roads will wait until after the November election. A member of the Upper Chamber’s six person work group, Republican Mike Kowall of Oakland County, says they need to know if the roads are being built properly, that the warranties are in place, that they’re not putting excessive truck weights on the roads and that weight restrictions are being enforced. Kowall says he doesn’t believe truckers are paying their fair share for the roads.
