Damage claims submitted to the Michigan Department of Transportation due to potholes over this past winter jumped 249% from 2013. According to M-DOT, 744 claims were submitted for this winter after they announced in February that drivers could seek reimbursement if a pothole was proven to be the cause of damage. In most cases, the claims aren’t paid as drivers have found it difficult to prove. M-DOT paid just three of the 744 claims this year.
