The Michigan Department of Transportation will be upgrading several traffic signals in the central and western Upper Peninsula this summer.
Many of those projects will be taking place in Houghton County.
MDOT will replace the signal at US-41 and 6th Street in Calumet.
They will also upgrade the signals on M-26 in Houghton at the intersections of Sharon Avenue, Brickyard Lane, and Green Acres Road.
Those upgrades will include communications equipment to improve traffic flow.
MDOT is investing about $750,000 in traffic signal upgrades at a total of eight different locations.
These projects will result in various improvements to traffic signal visibility along with increasing pedestrian and vehicle safety and mobility.
This work will require intermittent shoulder closures, lane closures and flag control.
All eight projects are expected to be completed by early October.

– M-553/US-41 in Marquette. Adding pedestrian signals and crosswalks.
– M-553/Grove Street in Marquette. Converting a four-way stop into a traffic signal.
– US-41/6th Street in Calumet. Replacing existing signal.
– M-28 Business Route (Teal Lake Avenue)/Main Street in Negaunee. Replacing existing flashers.
– M-95/US-41 in Humboldt. Replacing existing flashers.
– M-26 at Sharon Avenue, Brickyard Lane, and Green Acres Road in Houghton.
