MaeBelle J. Schmitz, 80, a resident of Hancock passed away Friday June 1, 2018, at the Omega House in Houghton.
She was born on January 26, 1938, in Park Rapids, MN, a daughter of the late Paul and Almeda (Youmans) Thompson. She was a graduate of the Park Rapids High School with the class of 1956. She then attended Bemidji State College and Soumis College receiving a Associate of Commerce Degree.
MaeBelle had worked for Soumi College in the House keeping Department, Pamida in Houghton, and as a desk clerk for the Budget Host Inn. She also was active locally with FOE Aerie #382 of Hancock holding various offices with the group. She also was an avid bowler for many years and was a past Secretary for the Copper Country Women’s Bowling Association for 30 years.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her sister Pauline Sarbaum.

Her children: David (Lori) Schmitz of Cleveland, WI
Shirley Mae Schmitz of Bloomington, MN
Mark Schmitz of Kearsarge, MI
6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Her brother: John (Kathy) Thompson of Park Rapids, MN
Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
