In high school baseball yesterday…
– Calumet dropped both ends of its doubleheader against Gogebic, 8-0 and 5-4.

In high school softball today, Houghton entertains L’Anse.
The first 10 rounds of the United State Hockey League draft were held yesterday. In the 10th round, the Green Bay Gamblers used the 153rd pick to select Calumet forward Tanner Rowe. The Gamblers are coached by Hancock native and former Michigan Tech standout and assistant coach Pat Mikesch. The USHL draft will conclude today.

The Detroit Tigers built an early lead, and held on to defeat the Texas Rangers 7-4 last night. The Tigers scored three times in the first inning, on home runs by Jeimer Candelario and Victor Martinez. José Iglesias added a two-run shot in the second inning. Mike Fiers pitched into the sixth inning, was charged with two runs, and got the win. Texas added two more in the eighth off Joe Jiménez, but the Tigers added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth, and Shane Greene came in to earn a four-out save.
The Tigers conclude that series at Texas this afternoon. Francisco Liriano will pitch against Bartolo Colon. Pregame coverage will begin at 1:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
The injury bug has bitten the Tigers again. Leonys Martin has a strained hamstring, and has been placed on the disabled list. Mikie Mahtook has been called back up from Toledo to fill in.
Milwaukee pitcher Brent Suter blasted a long home run, as the Brewers edged the Cleveland Indians 3-2 last night. Suter relieved starter Wade Miley with one out in the first inning, after Miley suffered an oblique injury. He pitched through the fifth, gave up two solo home runs, and earned the win. And, in the third inning, he launched a 433-foot home run. Travis Shaw had a two-run homer for the Crew.
The Brewers host the Indians again this afternoon. Junior Guerra will start against Carlos Carrasco.
NBA
In the NBA playoffs last night…
– Houston advanced to the conference finals, with a 112-102 victory over Utah. The Rockets win that series 4-1.
– Golden State moved ahead with a 113-104 win over New Orleans. The Warriors took that series 4-1.
The Warriors and Rockets will open the Western Conference finals Monday night.
Tonight…
– Philadelphia plays at Boston. The Celtics lead that series 3-1.
