SOUTH RANGE
Evelyn S. Charles, 87, a resident of South Range, died Tuesday, April 30, 2018, following a brief illness.
She was born November 3, 1930, in Pelkie, Michigan, a daughter of the late Niilo and Sylvia (Mattson) Wimpari, and was a graduate of the Jeffers High School in Painesdale.
On July 21, 1951, she was married to Edward Charles at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Painesdale. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1997.
Evelyn was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church of South Range and Ranger Post 6165 VFW Auxiliary of South Range.
Evelyn loved to crochet, quilt and sew. She was generous in donating her handmade items to charitable organizations locally, and to organizations in Lower Michigan and Minnesota.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Gail (Kenneth) Jones of Circle Pines, Minnesota, and Sue (Carl) Kiiskila of Gaylord, Michigan; four grandchildren, Michelle (Mike) Gerner, Shawn (Tiffany) Kiiskila, Jason (Jenny) Kiiskila and Ryan (Tessa) Jones; five great-grandchildren, Lilly, Isabel, Fletcher, Ella and Preston; one sister, Shirley Reid of Northville, Michigan; two brothers, Reuben (Joan) Wimpari of Green Valley, Arizona, and Daniel (Arlene) Wimpari of Mt. Clemens, Michigan; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband, Evelyn was also preceded in death by an infant son, Edward J. Charles; and two sisters, Beatrice Wandell and Judith Cote.
Per Evelyn’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held in June at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton with Fr. John Martignon to officiate.
