Obituary: Kenneth G Snyder

Kenneth G Snyder, age 64, of Alston, MI, passed away quietly on April 30, 2018 at Houghton County Medical Care Facility, Hancock, MI after losing his battle against colon cancer. Ken was born in Caro, MI on July 25, 1953, the youngest son of the late Paul and Shirley (Putnam) Snyder of Howell, MI. Kenneth attended school in Howell, MI.

Ken went to work for the State of MI in 1971, first working at Hillcrest in Howell, MI until it closed in 1982; in September of 1982 he went to work for MDOC at Jackson, MI. There he made many lifetime friends. He retired in 2008 from Camp Kitwin in Painesdale, MI after 35 years with the State.

Ken enjoyed being outdoors fishing, bird hunting and swimming. He became a member of Ottawa Sportsman’s Club when he retired and was an active member of the club right up until his illness July 14, 2017. He loved working with the children, teaching them how to shoot and getting them interested in being outdoors. Camp Nesbit was one of his favorite spring time activities.

Ken is survived by his wife Bonnie Snyder of 31 years, his son Paul Snyder of Fowlerville, MI and his daughters, Lori Snyder of Fowlerville, MI, and Christine of Howell, MI, granddaughter Eleanor Marie Snyder, his sister Paula Snyder and his brother Timothy Snyder both of Howell, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Service for Ken will be held Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the Ottawa Sportsman’s Club, Baraga, MI. A picnic in his honor will be held starting at 2 PM until 5 PM. This will celebrate his life and his birthday. All that knew him are invited to be there.

The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel of L’Anse have been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
